Guy Sues Ex-Employer For Taunting
Ryan Pacifico is suing his ex-job because they called him gay when he wouldn’t eat meat. Read Story. Yes, we are all to expect respect at work and not get treated in this manner at work, but lets look at a few key facts:
1. Pacifico was fired in March 2008
2. Pacifico started working at the firm in 2005
This case needs to be thrown out and his former employer should file a counter-suite for defamation. It seems to me that Pacifico endured up to 3 years of abuse and now, 8 months later, is suing the company. Why didn’t he do something while employed? Why wait 8 months? My guess is that with the current state of Wall St, he was not able to find more work so now he is hoping to get on the settlement train to make ends meet.
I’m going to assume this firm was mostly males. You know what happens when men hang out all day, everyday? They make fun of each other. I’m sure Mr. Pacifico did his share of ribbing at some poor coworkers expenses.
Plus, it is common knowledge that people who don’t eat meat are… gay. (ie happy).
If he was so bothered by the comments, he shouldn’t have put up with the abuse for 3 years. I don’t want to hear “oh, he was afraid to lose his job” because he could have tried to find another one AND why did he wait so long after getting fired to say something about it? Thats his problem.
The New York Post article was much more comprehensive. The article’s last line was that Pacifico was fired for one minor infraction (unnamed). It was also made clear that the supervisor had not been his boss for all three years. He had only been working under this ass for about a year. Before that, Pacifico says he was never harrassed or had any complaints about his performance. It stated this new boss repeatedly called him a vegetarian homo and gay to his face and to other employees behind his back. It can’t be teasing when you’re not even hearing it face to face. Right?
When other employees suggested having a firm dinner somewhere other than a steakhouse the boss was quoted as saying, “F— him. Who the f— cares? It’s his fault for being a vegetarian homo.”
During weekly staff lunch meetings this guy’s boss also would ONLY order hamburgers, sausage pizza, or peperoni pizza. He flatly told Pacifico he “would not order anything else ever. If you don’t like it. too bad.”
Doesn’t sound like harmless ribbing to me. And as for a counter-suit… Ha. Pacifico has witnesses.
@Steven
While you make some valid points, it still doesn’t answer the question as to why this is coming out 8 months after his firing? Why did he not take action immediately after being let go, or while it was happening?
Also, was he required to go to the firm dinner? was he required to eat the lunch that was paid for by the boss? At a previous employer, our boss wanted to take my team of 3 out to eat. The other male employee and I said steak, but the woman said “I don’t eat meat, lets get sushi”. Needless to say we weren’t happy with the meal.
I am going to assume this guy was employed at-will. Meaning he can leave when he wants, and he can get let go when the company wants.
first of all i grew up with ryan pacifico and you should get your story straight. He is currently employed and has a very good job with no plans of leaving.
He also did not want to make a big deal about this when he was unemployed because then people would assume like you are that he was just out for money when he is not. My feeling is that this guy should get brought down big time, and as for people like you who make these rude comments. You are even worse then his boss was.
Dude. My company doesn’t take me out for dinners. I guess they hate my gay ass. Uhmm. I’m not gay…. My point would be to say to this guy, grow a pair and stop being a crying ballerina. (hope that was politically correct)
@dennis
Why make a big deal about it all then? Am I wrong in thinking that Mr. Pacifico is looking for monetary compensation? If Mr. Pacifico is not looking for money, then I take back everything I said. But somehow I think Mr. Pacifico is hoping to get a settlement.
